Jayhawks planning ambush for Huskers-Cipriano
The Kansas University Jayhawks will look for revenge
when the UNL basketball team invades Allen Field House
in Lawrence, Saturday.
UNL handed the Jayhawks their only loss in Big Eight
Conference play 62-58 in Lincoln. However, since then,
KU has six consecutive wins and have wrapped up the Big
Eight title.
To win, the Jayhawks wili have to control the tempo
of the game more than they did in the loss in Lincoln.
"Nebraska has been effective in controlling the
tempo," Kansas Coach Ted Owens said. "That has to be
one of our major concerns. We need to make them play
our game and do a good job on the boards to defeat
them."

The Jayhawks are 21-3, 11-1 in conference play, and
ranked sixth in both the Associated Press and United Press
International college basketball polls.
"They've got the best overall balance and talent in the
league," UNL coach Joe Cipriano said. "We've beaten
them once this year in Lincoln, so you know that they'll
have an ambush waiting for us in Lawrence."
The Huskers (19-5) have been ambushed their last
two outings, 74-68 by Oklahoma and 74-52 at Missouri.
Regardless of the two losses, Owens said he still has
much respect for UNL.
"I have been extremely impressed with them," Owens
said. "They play very well as a unit on offense and
demonstrate good patience. Defensively they are one of
the league's best teams.
"In addition, I believe they have a solid bench. In fact,
their depth may be comparable to ours," he said.
The Jayhawk bench strength has helped them average
over 82 points a contest.

Leading the Jayhawk reserves are seniors Donnie Von
Moore and freshman Wilmore Fowler. Von Moore has
averaged 1 1 points a game this season and Fowler averages
eight points a game. Fowler hit a career high of 18 points
in the Jayhawks 75-63 win over Kansas State Saturday.
Freshman Darnell Valentine leads the balanced Kansas
scoring averaging 13.6 points a game, while forwards
John Douglas and Ken Koenigs average 12.3 and 11.3
points a game.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7:35 p.m., and will be aired on
KFAB, KLIN and KFOR.

Tickets for the first round play-off of the Big
Eight Post-Season Basketball Tournament are avail
able to UNL students at the South Stadium ticket
office from 9 to 1 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.
General admission tickets are $2 each. Students
will be required to present their student identifi
cation card when purchasing the ticket and again
for admittance to the game. UNL will host the
game on Tuesday, February 28 at 7:35 p.m. at the
Sports Complex.

After losing nine straight dual meets,
the UNL men's swim team will try to
recover in two meets this weekend at the
Sports Complex pool.
The Huskers host the University of
Northern Iowa today at 3 p.m. The meet
is followed by a triangular Saturday with
the Universities of Colorado and Minne
sota. Saturday's meet begins at 2 p.m.
UNL's wrestling squad will host the
Air Force Academy at the Sports Complex
