Uncensorcd recent movies soon may be
viewed on television by flick-freaks in the
comfort of ' their own homes, according
to Cablevision's general manger.
Tony Acone said the showcase service,
available to cable subscribers for $6.95
per month, will feature at least 12 differ
ent movies each month. The first series,
to begin Feb. 26 will include Rocky, Neb
work, Annie HaU and Smokey and the
Bandit, Acone said. .
The service is available only to regular
Cable vision subscribers, he said. Only pri
vate homes may receive the service, he
added, because copyright restrictions pro
hibit distribution to hotels, bars,- Greek
houses and other sites where-there are

rated but no X-rated films, will not be cen
sored, Acone said.
This may limit the service's sales,
according to the vice president of Dubin
sky Brothers Theaters, which operates the
Stuart Theater in lincoln. v
Sarge Dubinsky said parents may hesi
tate., to buy the service for fear
unsupervised children will watch R-rated
movies.
However, Acone said subscribers may
rent a 'parental control device for $15.
This simply b a lock and key which shuts
out the cable channel leaving regular recep
tion unaffected, he said.
Acone said market surveys indicated
20 to 25 percent of Cablevisior subscrib
ers will buy the Showcase service. This
amounts to 5,000 to 6,000 sales the first
year, he said. .
Dave Livingston, Douglas Theater vice
president, predicted the new service will
nave little effect on Lincoln movie atten
dance. ' V
rtI dont think this will affect us one
dime,. Livingston said. T would be sur
prised if they could throw out enough
good movies td hurt us."
Dubinsky agreed, saying the people who
will subscribe to the service are not movie
goers. He also said a comedy or dramatic
movie has more impact when seen in
a crowded theater..,
