UNO faculty had participated in the Air Force program that offers college level courses to U.S. military personnel at bases in England, Germany, Spain and Italy. The VA discontinued advance payment for the classes to the universities involved in the fall of 1976, Gouttierre said. Students now pay for the classes out of their own pockets and the VA reimburses them later. Since the policy change student enrollment has dropped and 14 uni versities have withdrawn. UNO decided to withdraw from the program at the time of the VA decision, but was required to give the military some notice before quitting. Gouttierre stressed UNO's continued "long term com mitment to military education." Welcome back students!
