Foreign students
alone for holiday
While most UNL students will gorge themselves on
turkey with their families this week, international stu
dents face staying alone, if they have a place to stay at all.
All university residence halls will close Wednesday
morning, except the graduate section of Selleck Quad
rangle and the International House. But many foreign
students do not live in these sections and must find other
places to stay.
Although the Office of University housing encourages
students and families to host a student in their homes over
the holiday, not enough places exist, according to Richard
McKinnon, assistant director of housing for residential
education.
Wesley House and the United Council of Churches also
are working to find places for them to stay, he said.
Although those living in International House have a
place to stay, meals are not provided. However, cooking
facilities are available, McKinnon said.
"I'll be eating only hamburgers and Dippy Donuts,"
said Monday Etiebet, a student from Nigeria.
Chijioke Kami, another Nigerian who lives in Cather
Hall said "I'll walk the streets. It's so difficult to find
anyone (to stay with)."
The only way to stay in International House if you
don't live there is "to get somebody to vacate their room,"
said Samson Okhade from Nigeria.
Mei Kang from Singapore will stay in International
House.
Speaking for herself and her friends, she said she
misses her family, "especially at holidays. We're
miserable."

Happy Turkey Day
See you after vacation.
Take Care.
Students staying in town Thanksgiving vacation may be
hard pressed to find .a place to gorge themselves quickly
and cheaply. Several Lincoln restaurants will be closed for
the day.
Many fast food outlets will be sending their employees
home for the customary feast but will be open Friday.
If a "Big Mac attack" strikes on the 24th, or if you '
crave a "big wholesome delicious change of taste" you'll
have to stock-up early-both McDonald's and Arby's will
be closed.
Or if you planned on celebrating Thanksgiving the way
Italians do you might buy a frozen pizza, because Valen
tino's also will be closed.
There are some places in Lincoln that will be open on
the 24th, and most will serve the traditional meal.
The Haymarket restaurant in the Hilton Hotel, 9th and
P St., will be open from 1 1:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., serving
a buffet style Thanksgiving meal. Turkey with dressing,
ham or roast beef will be served with all the trimmings for
$5.25. Reservations are requested.
Or if the three-piece suit is at the cleaners, you can
"come as you are" to any of the three Lincoln Alice's
Restaurants. Roast turkey, roast beef or souther fried
chicken with trimmings will be on the menu. The turkey
and chicken dinners will cost $4.29 and the roast beef
$4.44.
The Holiday Inn restaurant, 11.01 W. Bond, will
serve turkey, roast beef or ham with side dishes for
W.95. Dining room employees suggest making reserva
tions.
So if you're not eating at mom's or if mom refuses to
spend her holiday in the kitchen plan for that holiday
ineaj in advance.
