The Windy City meet will be the first three meets in Chicago for UNL during the next week. The team also will compete against the University of Illinois-Chicago Circle and in the Midwest Open meet Nov. 26 to 27. Last year, UNL finished second in the Windy City meet. However, this year's squad has been hampered by injuries and inexperience. Allen said he thinks the Huskers will improve, thanks to the return of sopho more all-arounder Mark Williams, who had been sidelined this season with an ankle injury. Allen said UNL has a good team, but it will take some time for some of the younger performers to show improvement. "We've done well in the Windy City and we've also done well in the Midwest Open," Allen said. "We've had champions there before, whether we have any this year, who knows?" If the Huskers do well in the Windy City meet, it could set the team up for a good year, Allen said. "Mark Williams is back and we should do better," Allen said. "Without Williams in the lineup, we've had to go with two freshmen and a sophomore. We should do better with Williams in the lineup. Besides Gerard (Larry), he is our best all- arounder." Gerard, who was the Big 8 Conference Champion his sophomore year, was red shirted this season so he could compete on the United States Gymnastics Federation (USGF)team. , Last weekend, Gerard recorded a career high of 109.55 while performing for the USGF in a meet in Albuquerque, N.M., against the Chechoslovakian national team. Gerard placed first on the rings with a score of 9.4 and received nines in each of his other events, Allen said. A perfect score is ten. Allen said Gerard may compete, but not representing a team, in the Midwest Open if he decides not to compete in the USGF meet in Germany. Even though Gerard is not competing with the Huskers, he still goes to meets to give support, Allen said. However, Allen said he still is not pleased with the teams' effort. "In our last meet, we hit 50 percent of our routines and that's a joke," Allen said. "Iowa State hit 99 percent of their rou tines. If coaching strategy pays off, we should be the better team at the end of the year. "If there were any (national) ratings out, Iowa State would be on top," Allen added. "They (ISU) will probably be there awhile. They have a good team for this early in the season." State Sen. Douglas Bereuter promised an "honest campaign" for Congress at a Thursday afternoon address to UNL Young Republicans, at the Nebraska Union. Bereuter, a First District Congressional candidate from Utica, said he intends to comply with the federal campaign dis closure laws and 'the Nebraska Sunshine law. He said he worked hard to passjhe proposal in the Nebraska Legislature. The Sunshine law requires complete financial disclosures by candidates. Bereuter also demanded that his campaign- staff run an open and honest cam paign. He said his biggest problem in his cam paign so far has been that people cannot pronounce his name. They do not recog nize his name until they read it, he said. ff ' t 1 j t .J I A55 4 . V s Photo by Bob Pearson Sen.
