German terrorist found dead,
officials claim it was suicide
Muhich. West
uerman terrorist Ingrid Schubert was
found hanged from a bedsheet tied to win
dow bars in her cell at a Munich prison
Saturday. Officials called the death a
suicide.
Reinhold Beek, a spokesman for the
Bavarian Justice Ministry, said early Sun

Miss Schubert, 33, was one of the 11
jailed terrorists whose release was demand
ed by the kidnap-killers of a West German
industrialist and the hijackers of a Luft
hansa jetliner. She was the fourth of those
terrorists to die in prison within the last
month.
Loan defaults
Washington - Students who attend
vocational and specialized schools are more
likely to skip out on government-guaranteed
loans than college students, the
government said Saturday.
Joseph A. Califano Jr., secretary of
Health, Education and Welfare, released
a study documenting the trend and de
livered a slap at "fly-by-night" vocational
schools.
"While some educational and specialized
schools are very good, others offer Jittle
of educational or vocational value and a
number are evert entirely fraudulent, fly-by-night
operations that offer no real
courses at all," Califano said.
The report said students at four-year
colleges and universities accounted for 48
percent of the loans from 1968 to 1974
but only 28 .percent of the defaults.
Exhaust fumes
Washington - The Environmental Pro
tection Agency is launching a major
research program to determine if the
exhaust fumes from the nation diesel
burning trucks and buses can cause can-'
cer.
The EPA. in announcing its plans for
the investigation, said preliminary findings
indicate diesel exhausts cause genetic
changes in bacteria and that the mutated
bacteria could have cancer-causing capa
bilities. Most large trucks, buses and some pri
vate automobiles use diesel fuel, but the
EPA said it was not issuing a health warn
ing to drivers or passengers.
"At this time we do not have sufficient
data to make any reasonable assessment of
the public health risk, if any, that might be
associated with emissions from diesel
powered vehicles currently operating on
the road," said Dr. Delbert Barth, the
EPA's deputy assistant administrator for
health and ecological effects.
