UNL graduate student may vie for legislative seat
A 23-year old UNL graduate student has announced he
may vie for the 26th Legislative District seat in the 197$
election.

UNUs George Rambour was the only Huskei to place
in the Great Rains freestyle wrestling championship Satur
day at Mabel Lee Hall Jackson, wrestling in the 215
pound division, finished third. Oklahoma State University
won the team championship.
The UNL Sports Complex's tennis courts will be open
I to 6 pjn. Saturday and 10 ajm. to 10 pjn. Sunday.
Persons can reserve courts from 9 a.m. to noon Monday,
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the Sports Complex,

The Husker women's basketball squad dropped its
first game of the season 105-79 Saturday to Winnipeg
University. The Huskers blew a 41-39 halftime lead in
the game at Winnipeg, Canada.

Don Weselv said he mav become a candidate for the
seat now held by Sen. Wally Barnett of Lincoln. Barnett
has said he will step down from the post.
If elected, Wesely said he will leave school to devote
all of his time to government, adding that "serving in the
Nebras&a Legislature is a full-time job.' He said he will
announce his final decision in about one month.
The University Studies graduate assistant was active in
campus government while an undergraduate at UNL.
He was a founder and first president of the Nebraska
University Public Interest Research Group, NUPIRG, a
student consumer group. While with NUPIRG Wesely said
he lobbied in the Legislature for passage of a returnable
bottle bill and a property tax relief bill.
He served on the boards of directors of the Coalition
of Open Government and Citizens to Preserve Wilderness
Park.
In 1974 and 1975 he lobbied for the ASUN Govern
ment Liaison committee and wrote a column for the
Daily Nebraskan last year.
Wesely is an 18-year resident of the 26th District,
which is located in northeast Lincoln. He said he expects
to draw support from his family and friends he made
while attending schools in that area.
"I expect a great deal of support, he said, "I expect
to win if I run.'
He declined to comment on his stand on Legislative
issues saying it would be premature to discuss issues be
fore he made his final decision to run.
