This is the fourteenth consecutive year that the' project has been in operation, said Robert E. Stepp Jr., project director. Those working on the project will search for and study educational materials for the hearing impaired. They have the authority to modify these materials, too, if they think a change is necessary, Stepp said. A special staff of teachers of the deaf, media specialists and subject matter specialists has been hired for the project. An annual symposium about educational techniques for teaching the handicapped will be conducted, Stepp said. If those working on the project discover a particular area with no available instruc tional material for the deaf, they design and produce such material, he said. From 1966 to 1974, the UNL project was the Midwest Regional Media Center for the Deaf, which served 12 states. From 1974 to 1977,' it was the nationally specialized office for the deaf and hard of hearing. The information gathered by the study is compiled in a computer at Ohio State University. "Over three years, we reviewed some 15,000. pieces of material," Stepp said. These abstracts are in the computer now, and it is possible for teachers of the deaf to acquire the information on request using a selective description including subject matter, grade level, and handicap condition, Stepp said. The UNL Block and Bridle Club Christmas ham sale is underway, according to Doug Winz, club president. The club will sell Hormel Cure 81 hams at $2.49 per pound for half hams and $2.47 per pound for whole hams, Winz said. The club has 21,000 pounds of ham on order. The club will take one-third the pro fit of a retail store because of the lower prices, he said. Winz said profits from the sale, the club's only money-making event, are used to finance the organization's other functions, such as the Little Ak-Sar-Ben showmanship contest and the queen coronation and livestock judging contests. Blpck and Bridle is a national organiza tion formed to -promote the livestock industry and interest in animal husbandry, Winz said. The club is trie largest student organiza tion at UNL with more than 130 members, Winz said. Membership is open to anyone who has taken at least one animal science class.
