daily nebraskan page 7 Wednesday, november 2, 1977 Faculty, staff lots not open to SA's A motion to recommend student assistants (SA's) again be allowed to buy parking permits in faculty and staff parking lots was defeated Tuesday afternoon at a Parking Advisory Board meeting at the Nebraska East Union. Board chairman Terry Tallon voted against the measure, saying he wanted more time to study the question and review public input. In open session before the vote, the board heard state ments from representatives of several UNL groups. Housing office representative Selina Sima, Harper-Schramm-Smith complex program director, said SA's should be allowed the privilege because of the service they provide to students. She added that such parking spaces were in surplus and SA's would not be in competition with teaching assistants, and others because of the lots location. Sima also asked why SA's were not notified of the change in time to provide input. Parking and traffic coordinator John Duve replied that the change was made to comply with university regulations and to provide more loading zones near residence halls. Residence Hall Association president Mark Gibson said more loading zones are not needed and ones currently in use are not enforced. He added that space is being wasted in staff lots which should go to SA's because of the service they provide to students. Mike Eyster, complex program director at Abel-San-doz halls, agreed no more loading zones are needed and recommended 15 parking spaces to be set aside for Abel SandozSA's. UNL student Ken Marienau noted a considerable sur plus of funds in the Parking and Traffic Dept. because of higher revenues and lower than expected costs. He re commended hiring an accountant to help manage the department's budget, adding that parking permit rates could be lowered in the future. union coJenctaf Nqon , -.
