Nebraska's offense has features two
quarterbacks this fall; senior Randy Garcia
and junior Tom Sorley. Garcia will start
today after Sorley got the starting nod last
week,
Husker head coach Tom Osborne said
Garcia played "a little better" than Sorely
against Kansas State, but added that the
game "was not a completely fair test to
Tom, He , was sick prior to the game, I
think maybe this week we'll start Garcia,
but we will continue to play both."
Defensively, the Huskers will be looking
for their first shutout of the season today.
The last time the Cyclones came to Lin
coln (in 1975), they were shut out 52-0.
The Blackshirt unit has been led by jun-
ior linebacker Lee Kunz with 17 solo
tackles and 38 assists for a team-leading
total of 55. Monster Jim Pillen has record
ed 35 total tackles this fall, but won't start
today. In his place will be senior Kent
Smith, last year's starter.
The Huskers, traditionally near the top
of the conference's defensive charts, rank
fourth in rushing defense (159,4 yards a
game) and third in passing defense (122.4
yards). The Blackshjrts are fourth in total
and scoring defense, allowing 15 points a
game,
Offensively, the Huskers are faring
slightly better in Big 8 statistics, the
rushing average is good for third in the
conference while the passing attack, with
125.4 yards a game, also is third. Nebraska
is second in total offense and third in
scoring offense, averaging 25.8 yards a
game.
