Spikers, harriers to host
biggest matches of season
Two Husker women's varsity teams
will host their biggest meets of the regular
season this weekend.
The UNL varsity and junior varsity
volleyball teams host the University of
Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), St. Cloud
State College, Oklahoma State University,
Lincoln Volleyball Club, the University of
Minnesota and the University of Missouri.
Action begins at 5 p.m. today and at 9
a jri. Saturday.
The Husker cross-country team will
compete with Doane College, Fort Hays
College, the University of Wyoming and
Kearney State College. The race begins
at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pioneers Park.
Doane and Ft. Hays did not field full
teams so their points will not count
toward team totals.
The Husker runners won the Kearney
State College Invitational, and the
South Dakota Invitational. UNL also fin
ished second in the Grinnell, la. Invitation
al. Husker Cindy Dixon won all three
meets.
The Huskers will be without Kelly
Hiatt, who suffered a knee injury.
Husker Coach Carol Frost said Dixon,
freshman Donna Fox and senior Doris
Hitz are the Huskers top three runners.
"I've been really pleased with the top
three runners," Frost said. "Kelly Hiatt
is the only person with any experience and
the rest of the runners have not run cross
country this year.
"When you consider this, I think they
have been running well and improving
every week," she said.
