Panitt defends cooperation with CIA

"I don't see anything morally or journalistically wrong
in a member of the press giving information or observa
tions to the CIA on a one-time or even on a regular basis,"
Panitt wrote.
Panitt said he was. prompted to make public his CIA
connection by Carl Bernstein's report in "Rolling Stone"
magazine that 400 American newspapermen have worked
with or for the CIA.

'"I wondered how many of the 400 were men like my
self who saw-and still see-nothing at all wrong in telling
the CIA the same tilings we'd tell any cocktail-party ac
quaintance who bothered to ask," Panitt said.
Suspect held
A 30-year-old Kearney native was being held Tuesday
amid tight security in the Dawson County jail in connec
tion with the brutal beating death of a rural Lexington
housewife. '
The nude battered body of Mrs. Ruth Eby was found
on the edge of a field Tuesday afternoon, several hours
after Dawson County authorities took the, man into cus
tody. .
Sheriff John Rohnert told reporters that charges were
being prepared against the suspect, a laborer, at a Lexing
ton manufacturing plant. '
