Music group starts 13th year
Thirteen isn't unlucky for everything.
This is the 13th season for the Lincoln
Friends of Chamber Music and the group's
president is looking forward to the five
public concerts.
Nelson Potter, UNL philosophy instruc
tor, said people sometimes get the wrong
impression from the name "Lincoln
Friends of Chamber Music "
"The name suggests that it's a club, but
it's really just a series of concerts," Potter
said. "You become a member by buying
a season ticket.
, Potter said approximately 90 per cent
of each concert's audience has series tickets
while the remainder purchase whatever
individual tickets are available.
Still, Potter said, some people are scared
away by the $20 price of a series ticket.
Chamber music falls into the general
category of classical music, and the term
chamber means that it's music for small
. groups, usually three to ten performers,
Potter said.
Potter said the "hardcore chamber
music lovers" enjoy the string quartet,
what he termed the most common form of
chamber music. As a resuli, this season's
series will include two concerts by string
quartets, Potter said.
The series begins on Oct. 14'with the
Baroque Music Masters, who play music
from the 7th and early 1 8 th centuries on
instruments including a harpsicord,
baroque flute, recorder, viola da gamba and
treble viola.
Tickets are available by calling Potter
at 472-2428, or 464-7160.
Individual tickets are sold before each
concert. Students get a special price of
$3, Potter said.
