Muscular Dystrophy steps
.....
on contest dancer's toes
The trip for two won by Gary Albeo
and Sandy Dauphin in last year'b Muscu
lar Dystrophy (MD) dance marathon
turned out to be two trips for one.
Albee's trip, originally. advertised for
two toolchim to Las Vega's for the Jerry
Lewis Labor Day Telethon, but
.Dauphin will take her trip to a MD
workshop in Hollywood, Florida in
October, said Dave Voelte, last year's
marathon .chairman.
The marathon, sponsored by the Chi
Phi fraternity, was March 4th and 5th,
before, they received any word on
MDA's new rule awarding a trip to only
one member of the winning couple,
Voelte said.
He said the fraternity worked out a
way to send both winners to Las Vegas
as advertised, but a mix-up with the
national MDA office in New York two
weeks before the scheduled trip prevent
ed Dauphin from going.
The trip for two awarded by the na
tional MDA in the past was partically
sponsored by Frontier Airlines and was
curtailed because of the growing
number of dance marathons, Voelte,
said.
Dauphin's upcoming trip to Flor
ida is sponsored by MDA at the local
level, he said.
The Chi Phi's are planning to hold
the dance marathon again this year
offering only . the single trip prize
unless they can find a sponsor for the
other 'trip, said Craig Brauer, dance
marathon chairman.
Brauer . said they might drop . the
whole trip idea and substitute scholar
ships or other prizes.
Despite the problems with last year's
Las Vegas trips, Brauer is optimistic
about the success of this year's MD
dance marathon..

'You can get anything done if you want
to. All you have to do is write it down on
paper, pass it, and then go out and raise
hell."
Morrison said he thinks ASUN is "bark
ing up the wrong tree" on the proposal.
"ASUN does not have as much time to
do as good a job as FAB has," he said. "I
think it (the power to allocate) should
be given to a body similar to FAB, but
that body, should be under ASUN control."
Mark Crocker, .vice president of the
Nebraska University Public Information
Research Group (NUPIRG), said he wanted
to bring to the attention of the senate sev
eral questions concerning the summer
meeting of FAB when NUPIRG lost its
funding.
"Why was the meeting so poorly adver
tised?" he asked. Why was the meeting
behind closed doors? Why is there no
written record of the meeting or its
agenda?"
Don Macke, president of NUPIRG, sug
gested the senate create specific guidelines
for allocations, should it get the power to
allocate student fees.
