Carter accepts Lance's resignation
Washington D.C.-Bert Lance, director of the Office of
Management and Budget and a personal friend of President
Jimmy Carter, resigned Wednesday.
Carter announced the resignation, with regret," to
the press late Wednesday afternoon. He called Lance both
his friend and personal advisor.
Carter said the press' handling of the Lance affair was
fair but that there was some Unfairness on the side.'
Reaction by Nebraska Republican leaders was generally
favorable. Rep. Charles Thone, who had called for Lance's
resignation earner, said he was glad Lance finally had
resigned. -
Sen. Carl Curtis said Lance had lost his effectiveness
and that "the whole Carter administration was tainted."

the debris is expected to move rapidly northeastward and
reach the Great Lakes region today and the East Coast on
The Environmental Protection Agency had warned that
some of the radioactive material might get caught in rain
fall during the night, and contaminate pasture land m
Washington, Oregon, most of Idaho and parts of northern
California.' But an EPA spokesman said today that there
appeared to be no problem because the turbulent air from
associated press
datelines
the rain storm was at a much lower elevation than the
cloud mass.

Nixon aides drugged? '
Washington-Members of President Nixon's traveling
party were drugged during a trip to an "unfriendly"
nation sometime in 1971, the CIA's former scientific
chief told investigating senators today. Dr. Sidney Gott-
Heb told a Senate health' subcommittee that the Presi
dent was not affected but that his personal physician, Dr
Walter Tkash, was. Gottlieb said one symptom of the
drug was that those affected by it cried at inappropriate
times. He said that he has seen documentation indicating
that foreign intelligence agents used drugs on American
officials until 1973, the year Gottlieb left the CIA
