friday, September 2, 1977 daily nebraskan Committee broadens lobbying efforts . Expanding its lobbying efforts for the stats tn th national level, ASUN's Government Liaison Committee (GLC) will enter a new realm of student involvement this year. "Well be lobbying for students on more of a national ,level,M co-chairman Mike Herman said. "This is something we've never done before." .. Previously, GLC, an ASUN standing committee, has directed itself primarily toward student issues in the Leg islature. The committee lobbies for student rights and interests, co-chairman Mary Fejfar said. GLC will broaden its scope through contact with the National Student Lobby in Washington, D.C. Although GLC cannot afford the $475 national membership fee this year, Fejfar said the committee will monitor the group's actions. Besides national involvement, GLC will work for more student civil rights, according to Fejfar. Last year, legislative lobbying for landlord-tenant rights was one of the committee's major projects, she said. short stuff Students, faculty and staff interested in obtaining a copy of the "UNL Role and Mission Draft State-ment"-on which a public hearing is being held at 3 pjn. today at Regents Hall, 3835 Holdrege-can pick one up at the Office of University information, Admin. Although increases to $22.50 and $23.60 have been pro posed for the next two years, no one has protested them, Herman said. ; GLC will spend most of the fall semester researching bills for the spring legislative session. Fejfar said in addi tion to the landlord -tenant and tuition issues, GLC also is studying student fees control and allocation. Since she and Herman are also ASUN senators, Fejfar said they already have a lot of information on the fees revision ordered in June by the NU Board of Regents. "There are other issues we are just beginning to re search, but there's nothing we can say for sure," she said. GLC membership has fluctuated from five to 20 members since the early 70's when the committee was first formed, Herman said. Herman said he hopes to fill the committee, composed of students at large, with 15 to "20 hard-working members. The added that. GLC appli . cations are available in the ASUN office, 334 Nebraska Union. Budget management will be tight this year, according to Herman. GLC's $975 budget was cut to $475 this summer when the regents rejected student fee increases. Budget expenses include purchasing law books, paying for a mail box at the Legislature, and printing costs for a booklet Fejfar has designed to inform students about lobbying and how to become involved in it. daily ncbro.s!;an The Student Alumni Board is sponsoring a talk - the fields are helpful.
