ment limitations.
Home Economics
The quality of the faculty and students is high. Ample
job opportunities are available to graduates.
There is need for increased research, more teaching
assistants, higher teaching assistant stipends and
inadequate operating funds.
Journalism
This school appears to be exceptionally well led by its'
director, and is something of a- model tor academic
journalism nationally.
Because of its growth and the advent of its successful
graduate program and in spite of the recent excellence
award, the faculty appear to be stretched fairly thin in
their teaching and service efforts. ,
Law
The college mission is clear: train lawyers for Nebraska.
It proved this by a 100 per cent performance by its
students in the 1977-State Bar Exams,
Law schools nationally try to recruit the top 10 per
cent young graduates and this college feels it is not getting
the funds to have a fail try at this talent market. Keeping
strong faculty, need for building more role models and the
problem of retention were needs men tionecL .
Education
Teacher manpower needs and college admissions have
"remained reasonably in balance. The leadership of this
college is Nebraska-experienced, The dean is well
recognized nationally.
Some hardship is experienced because 'of too few
faculty holding membership in the graduate college and
thereby being ineligible for supervising graduate research.
The frosh-aid list
All kidding aside, freshmen almost inevitably
encounter some, confusion when coming to campus for
the first time.
To help ease the frustration the first few days of school
may bring, the Daily Nebraskan has compiled a partial
list of services and information that may be helpful to
those new to the campus.
Information booths, sponsored by New Student
Orientation, will be north of the Nebraska Union and at
the East Campus Union Aug. 26 - 30,
Campus tours will be offered Aug. 26-30, Tours leave
from the information booths in front of the Nebraska and
East Campus unions.
Student information and phone numbers for other
campus services and personnel is 472-1 234 or simply
dial '0M if using an on-campus telephone.
The University Health Center is open Monday through
Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 pjn, and Saturdays from 8 a.m.
to noon. Located on "U St. between 15th and 16th
Sts., call 472-2101 for an appointment.
Outreach, 472-2200, is available around the clock for
over-the-phone counseling.
The Ombudsman, 472-3633, in 116 Lyman Hall, may
help with any academic problems.
Student Legal Services offers free legal advice for all
UNL students. 472-3350, Rm. 334 Nebraska Union.
Call Love Library, 472-2561, for library hours and
help in finding reference material.
Sept. 1216 is Freshman Week. Discussion groups and
mini-sessions dealing, with topics of interest and value for
freshmen will be from 11:30 a .in, to 1:30 p.m. in the
Nebraska Union.
Foreign student orientation, Aug, 17-27, will Include
campus and city tours including a full schedule of
