"We show these films as an art form, like any other medium featured at Sheldon," said Dan Ladely, director of the Sheldon Film Theater. "They are works of high quality and different styles done by good film makers who keep with the. contemporary scene. We try to get' films with no other outlet, that is commercial theatres and television." This marks the 25th year of. the Foreign Film Series sponsored by the Union Program Council. Films will be shown Sunday through Tuesday on alternating weeks throughout the season. Admission will be by , season tickets only, $9 for students, $10 for faculty members and staff and $15 for general public. Foreign Film series ticket holders also will receive a fifty-cent discount to all films in the Foreign Classics series. . "This year we will be featuring several films by women, including selections from the Internatiorial Festival of Womens Films," Ladely said. "I think this is an important series because the women organized this society to show they can do as well as men in a field that has not been very open to them. There is a good mixture and quality in these films." Another feature will be the Film-makers Showcase; a retrospective of prominent directors' works. After evening showings, the directors will discuss their works with the audience. The first of these will be The Filmsof A Ibert and David Maysles, September 20 through 24. The Beatles in the USA, Meet Marlon Brando, Showman (on Joseph Levine), A visit with Truman Capote, Christo's Running Fence, Gimme Shelter, Salesman, and Grey Gardens. v Grey Gardens is a critically acclaimed film about Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter, the eccentric aunt and cousin of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Qnassis, who live in the delapidated remains of their seaside mansion. The film is a prime example of the Maysles subtle, probing documentary style. Albert Maysles will discuss his works -at 'the evening showings on Sept. 23 and 24. The showcase is free or by donation.
