While the Huskers won three of four games from Iowa State University (ISU) last weekend on the UNL diamond, the University of Missouri and the University of Kansas doublcheader was rained out both Saturday and Sunday. The Huskers, who have a 5-7 conference record, must rely on two Missouri wins over Kansas, who has a 5-5 conference re cord. If that happens, UNL will go to the playoffs since they beat Kansas in the first game of their series. The Huskers won a doublcheader Fri day over ISU to keep their hopes alive for a playoff berth and won the first game of Saturday's twinbill, 8-5, but lost the second game, 5-2. llzss kits In the first game of the twinbill, Husker Paul Haas drove in four runs and went three for four. Haas, hitting .326 for the year, had a 2 RBI single in the second inn ing to tie the game 2-2. ' Haas then hit a triple into left center field in the fourth inning to drive in two more runs for the Huskers. Haas also scored in the sixth inning. Haas, a senior, said the Huskers did not hit good enough in the second game. The Huskers had Ave hits in the second game and seven hits in the first game. "The coaches told us to play every game, one at a time," Iks said, referring to the playoff situation. "But the hitting was just not good enough." Coach Tony Sharps said the pressure of making the playoffs may have affected the Husker's hitting. "My guess would be that they were a little tight," Sharpe said. 'There's a lot more incentive when playing for a tourna ment spot." Ninth homer Steve McManaman, who was the starting pitcher in the first game, hit his ninth home run of the year in the third inning over the right centerfield fence. Jeff Costello relieved McManaman in the third inning allowing only five hits and two runs and striking out seven Cyclone batters. Costello is 44 on the year while McManaman remains 5-0. Cyclone right bander Curt Kaufman allowed only five hits and two run: in the second game to give the Huskers their first home loss for the year. Kaufman, now 3-5, struck out nine Husker batters and allowed only three hits in the final six innings. Husker Cliff Faust went five and two thirds innings giving up eight hits and four runs. Faust is now 3-3 on the year. The Huskers will play Creighton Univer sity Tuesday in a doubleheader and will host another twinbill with Northwest Missouri State University Wednesday. want . , .., ,,.,"' 1970 Triumph Spitfire.
