Only in this case, it was trying to find a pcrty at the end of a long, confusing drive. The event was Friday's Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity road rally, and if you think it's a little much comparing it to the search for the pot of gold, well, for me it was about as frustrating. About 15 cars were entered in the rally. The object was to follow directions set out by chalk markers and make your way to the end of a set route with the least mileage. . "Sounds simple," I thought, when I made arrangements with a fraternity mem ber and his friend to ride along in their car. "This will bs too simple. What will I writs about?" Little did I know. . . . Friday afternoon, in the Lambda Chi lot- everything's set. Mileage checked, directions to find the first check station given, and Skip, the driver, Phil, the navigator and me the spectator were ready to go. We were the second car to leave. That seemed to me like a good position to be in, but I found out that it was all relative. You had to match the mileage that was Aha, the first checking station on Arbor set by someone who had driven the course Road. So far, so good. There they told us the night before. - to follow that road till we had found a marker and called Vgood luck" as we had left, were they trying to tell us something? It seems that they were. Ve encount ered our problems when we reached our first intersection with a chalk marker. Okay, a left out of the lot onto 14th Street. No problems there. Right on to R Street, left on to 17th Street, and left onto Vine Street, then right back on to 14th Street. Sounds confusing? You haven't heard the half of it. We headed out of Lincoln on 14th Street, where we were supposed to turn right on to Arbor Road. No problem, except Phil thought we may be in David City before we reached it. So, we took a left, confident that we were doing the right thing. Continued on p.
