At performances Friday and Saturday night in Kimball Recital Hall the company proved its professional talent The varied programs showed a repertoire of extreme depth and feeling that Lincoln hasn't seen for quite awhile. The power of the productions seemed to come from the dancers' dedication to the fine points of the art: per sonal style, exact timing, the ability to adapt and self confidence. It was probably the last point that contributed so much to each piece. Every dancer knew each work thoroughly so one could feel the intense concentration in the execution of each movement Contrasting The Friday night program featured several contrast ing dances. "Allegro Erillante," choreographed by Geroge Bal an chine, was an expression of beautiful music. The motions mirrored the music from areas of smooth, flowing lyrical notes to agitated sections. " The dancers responded with characteristic grace to fit each mood, assisted by subtle lighting changes to enhance the feelings. Jose limoa's "Moor's Pa vane," also was. performed Saturday night. "The Moor's Pavane is a dance rendition of Shake speare's Othello, in the true sense of a pavane. The stately court dancers wore ceremonial dress and used effective fades and colored lights. - Both versions retained a quality of tension and appre hension which resulted from Othellos impending doom, but Friday night's dance had a more sinister feeling. wkn One of Harkarvy's newest dances, "From Gentle Circles," ended the performance. True to its name, the dance began with three gently moving circles of dancers who broke apart to do individual and group parts in time, with Dvorak's varying music. Saturday night's first dance, Recital for Cello and Eight Dancers," created an expression of pure dance using only one instrument instead of the complete orchestra. Realism portrayed The cellist played on stage along with the dancers so that an incredible rapport developed between the visual and audible stimuli It was pure dance displayed in the stark realism of a black stage, black and white costumes, d it was for dance f ans I SSI 6S9 ESS 3 (28 tSM jsi d Nc;7 DC cTi en ny a 2 in siCcE 2 Cf far expires 3277. n .. limit one coupon per , custsmsT. . 1 E3 E33 S2S CZ3 K53 S3 E3 ESI 3 ESI E3 3 IB EH l3 . exxmnm center . 611 No. 27fih Ph. 474-23C0 I Godfather's Entertainment Mar. 1 St 2 Midwest Rsrobters Msr. 3 Earthworks Mar. 4 Thrush Monday: 2-FERS 4:20 to Close Uq Cover UPSTAIRS - GLASS MENAGERIE TWFLFTH AND P STPFETS 477 1234 "One of those rare delights you'll want to see again and again and again!" Saturday's version of "The Moor's Pavane" had a more subdued feeling of harm but the competition between lago and Othello was still apparent. The treatment of the piece as a ballet originally done as a modern dance was remarkable. The angular, percussive movements acquired a special emotion as a ballet rather than a modern dance. "Raymonda Variations," Saturday's final dance was a combination of virtuoso segments into a dramatic whole. Each variation reflected the troupe's music, personality and style.
