Tonight's meet is against another number two team, Southwest Missouri State University. However, South west Missouri is ranked second nationally. Southwest Missouri is strong in all respects, Schalk said. They have a couple of "elite performers which are the forerunners of Olympic gymnasts." Two Southwest Missouri gymnasts to watch are Claudia Woody and Cheryl Diamond, Schalk said. Woody does back flips on the balance beam. And her other events, are equally as exciting," Schalk said. Possible top finishers for the Huskers are freshmen Tammy Driscoll and Crissy Robertson, the coach said. "Tammy did really well at the Big 8. She made the finals in all four events (vaulting, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise), and that's hard to do," Schalk said. The top scorer for the Huskers was Robertson, who Women s swim feom nun finished second in both the vaulting and balance beam competition. "I was really pleased with my performance," Robertson said. "I didnt think I would do so well. "I didnt do so well in the prelims the first day, but I came back and did all right in the finals." Host Iowa State University won the two-day tourna ment by seven points over the Huskers. "Iowa State legitimately beat us, but not by seven points. Maybe by three or four, but not by seven," Schalk said. . The scoring for the meet was generally pretty low. And it tended to be in favor of Iowa State." Tonight's meet, starting at 7:30 in Mabel Lee Hall, formerly the Women's Physical Education Eldg., will have an added feature. The two schools' private gymnastics clubs will compete simultaneously with the two main teams. The Ozark Gymnastics Empire will take on the Nebraska School of Gymnastics Club. These private clubs feature girls between ihe ages of 12 and 17. Schalk said. gn for win, Big' 8 A "hungry" UNL women's swim team is in Lawrence, Kan., today for the Big 8 Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. Head coach Ray Huppert said his team t is "hungry" for this meet, adding that the " University of Missouri and the University of Kansas are the teams to beat. "They're the two powerhouses of the league' Huppert said. "We swam against them this year in a quadrangular meet. We beat Missouri, but lost to Kansas." All Big 8 schools except Kansas State University and Colorado University will compete in the three-a'ay event. Huppert said he is looking for good re- suits from UNL swimmers. Freshman Melanie Jakob, who .will compete in two relays and five individual events, said the team's goal is to win the conference crown. "We want to beat Kansas really bad," 'she said. "Missouri will be tough and all the other teams will be ready for this meet." Huppert said Anne Watland and Jakob, two of UNL's top swimmers, have been aided this year -by Sue Lewis, Micki Crosby, Heidi Harris, Deb Petersen, Lois Hayman, Cheryl Schmidt and Eila Austin. "They have been strong contributors all year," Huppert said. "They will play an important part in how our team does." After this weekend's competition, the Huskers host the Region 6 Championships, Feb. 24 to 26 at the UNL Sports Complex. Jakob said it is exciting to think about hosting the regional, but added that the team is taking one meet at a time. "Everybody on our team has improved this year," she said. "That's one of -our big accomplishments." jnihiMitinitt mindly onui 1 200 years at the same location. crossword puzzle ACROSS 1 Winding lane 5 Society girls 9 Serf 14 Olive genus 15 German noble 16 Scent 17 Dog or lucky 18 "I Love -" 19 Wanders 29 Tough going 22 Vipers 23 Jake on cargo 24 This, in Spain 25 Math ratio 23 Suitable 32 Church art pieces 33 Lose alertness - 34 Brownie 35 Local movie, for short 23 " Com" ' 37 Petitions 33 Diminutive suffix 33 Twirls 43 Greek letter 41 "Don't give me a " 43 Irregular 44 Ages 45 Beef Card game 43 Construction men 53 Adjective suffix 54 W.W.I spy, with 49 Down 55 Adjoin 3 Swift 57 Type of school 53 Laugh, in Paris 3 Feelings of ardor C3 Caesar and others CI Depression DOWN 1 Swanky 2 Can. province 3 Rip 4 Adamant view tailed by WILL WEKG 5 6 7 FoOl Develop Calfc partner 8 Foxy 9 Autotype 10 Wears down 11 Tennis score 12 Hebrew measure 13 Russian agency 21 Swedish districts 22 Poplar 24 Swords 25 Lead-pipe item 23 Florida city 27 Subdued 28 Put in a row 29 All thumbs 39 Cheap 31 Theme 33 Takes off weight S3 Of bees 37 Braggart 39 Maroons 49 Mimicked 42 Keep under restraint 43 Applies trie belt 59 Anne Nichols 45 Full 43 Get on 47 Soviet sea 43 Pacific palm 49 See 54 Across , role 51 "One good 1 ft ,mm . 52 Let it stand 54 Brit legislators ASSSTEJI T3 FSZYISSS PUZZLE MS th e)k TTn g ofJs pp sts " ' E T 0 "M 6V, sIcUftT; !fTs." pJaTt icim ML1 '?
