The Husker gymnasts will face Louis iana State University (LSU) and the Uni versity of Oklahoma (OU) in the indoor track area of the UNL Sports Complex. The meet is scheduled to start at 7:30 pjn. "This is the biggest meet of the year tor us," Allen said. "Oklahoma and LSU are two of the finest in the . nation. And Oklahoma looks to be a little bit of a favor ite going into Saturday's meet." Allen said the performance" of Husker all-arounder Larry Gerard will be the key to the meet for the Huskers. "The whole thing depends on Gerard, Allen said. "If he performs like he did last Saturday (againsf the University of Kan-" sas) well lose the meet. I'm still kind of waiting on him right now. He may crack, but I know we're going to need, those few extra points he's capable of picking up for us Saturday night. "If he stumbles on his floor exercise routine then everybody looks at each other and says 'uh-oh.' It messes everyone up. It's like a quarterback who can't hit a wide-open split end," he said. Gerard will be just one of five gym nasts in the meet who has competed on the international level in the LSU-OU meet. "LSU has two excellent gymnasts in Ron Galimore and Mike Godawa," Allen said. "Galimore is a former national floor exercise champion and Godawa was in the , Olympic trials. Oklahoma also has two in Bart Connor who was an Olympian and Mike Wilson who was a former national age group champion." Alien said he expects a close meet. "I think we Improbably see some broken routines and tense performances," he said, "but our guys know what to expect. Well go into the meet knowing our rou tines. We still havent performed within the realm of our capability." Saturday's meet will be the last home meet for all-arounder Duane West and high bar specialists Gary Jeurink and Kurt Mackie. The gymnasts will have three weeks of 'hibernation training" following the LSU OU meet, Allen said. "We need the long layoff before the Big 8 meet," Allen said. "It's paid off before so I know we need that time to train." thursday, february 17, 1977 I. t A f 4 s 1 I 1l .... ii . f . P s ,. - . : i -. , , . If- ' -,v :-.-
