Young said the search committee for student affairs vice chancellor Friday submitted a list of six names to him, but said applications and nominations for academic affairs vice chancellor will be open until Jan 1. Young said he will begin contacting the candidates immediately and will begin "an extensive search through interviews with the search committee, in order to appoint someone to the position as quickly as. possible." David Sellmyer, search committee chairman, said 35 nominations and 35 applications have been received by the committee, but the committee has not discussed any of the candidates. Serious, difficult "We are still in the process of developing procedures for evaluating people," Sellmyer said. "It is a serious and difficult matter to develop evaluation procedures so that you don't discriminate against anyone." Although the vice chancellor for student affairs search committee has submitted its list to the chancellor, they have not yet disbanded, Chairman Jack . Goebel said. "We have not yet contacted anyone being consider ed," Goebel said, "and have not had any one-on-one interviews.; 'The chancellor would .like us to be available to meet with him when the candidates are invited to the campus," he said. Goebel said the committee received more than 125 nominations and applications, which he said surprised him. : v.- 'To receive that many applications and nominations is a substantial response, and I'm quite satisfied with the results," Goebel said." v ' Began in September The 1 1 -member committee, which consists of students, Applications due soon Applications for Daily Nebraskan reporters and copy editors are due Thursday. 'This has been a very dedicated group of people who really worked well together," Goebel said. 'Th,ey did a thorough job, which speaks well for the ability of students, faculty and businessmen to work together." Goebel said the committee looked at the candidates' administrative experience, personal characteristics, student affairs experience, ability, in interaction with minority students and the ability to create new programs. He also said the committee looked at their professional teaching career to see if they would fit. into the university. Material sent in by the nominators and applicants was reviewed first, Goebel said. If more information was needed, the committee went back to the nominator and made calls to references, he said. "It (vice chancellor position) is a very significant job," Goebel said, "and I'm pleased that we've undertaken a careful search because it is a job that warrants a well qualified individual." ; Electors choose president at 2p.m. Nebraska's five members of the Electoral College will cast their votes at the State Capitol at 2 pm. today. Republican elector Art Knox said the electors will meet at Gov. J. James Exon's office at noon, but will not cast their ballots until 2 p.m. . Knox, executive vice president , of Lincoln Steel Corp., said the noon appearance is probably "to make our presence known and to assure that we will be there at the proper time to cast our ballots." Calling his participation "a great honor," Knox said he is "looking forward" to casting his ballot. Another Republican elector from Lincoln, Paul Amen, said he would "feel better if i cast my ballot for the person who is going to be president." Because President Ford carried Nebraska's popular vote, the electors will cast their ballots for him. The Electoral College officially chooses the president and vice president of the United States. The number of electors chosen is determined by the state's number of congressmen. In Nebraska, each party chooses five candidates for elector. The electors of the winning candidates cast their votes to match Nebraska's popular vote, i The Republican electors were chosen at a Republican state convention last summer. ;njoy , f ' . lit mm if 1 INTRODUCING- It's New To " Lincoln if IT. i i l . . .
