In a meeting of university officii! Thursday morning it wis decided to "defer the nutter until there has been more discussion" iccoriing to Ron Gkrhzn, acting vice chancellor for student zflbrs. As a result, the increase wi3 not be on the agenda at Friday's NU Lead of Regents meeting at Regents IML A report on tenure levels and federal money for the Univer sity of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) wEl be on the agenda. The proposed $1 price increase for non-conference games would support women's athletic programs. Gierhan said he wasn't sure if the higher price would affect student tickets or apply to regular season ticket holders only. Gierhan estimated that $250,000 to S2S0JDG0 wou!d be generated by the price increase. To comply with Title IX the university has to increase support of women's athletics, to a level comparable to the male athletic programs, Gierhan said. Title IX, a part of the federal Educational Amendments of 1972, prohibits sex discrimination in institutions receiving federal support. "Women's athletics broke even on last year's expenditures, Gierhan said. "If we increase money spent there, it has to come from somewhere. . Miles Tommeraasen, vice chancellor for business and finance, said UNL is one of the few schools which does not meet athletic expenses with student fees or tax dot- -Iars, ; , . Also at the meeting, the regents will hear a report indicating that the percentage of tenured faculty at UNL has declined slightly., A study by Steven Sample, NU executive vice president for academic affairs shows that the number of tenured faculty members has dropped about 32 per cent, to 613 per cent of the total faculty. This is above the national average. UNL tenure level kg!r Campus tenure levels are: UNL, 70.1 per cent, Univer-, sity of Nebraska Medical Center, 36.5 per cent, and UNO, 595 per cent. . A national study shows that 59 per cent of faculty members at all ranks in public universities are tenured. The S7.1 million is part of the $10 million allocated to Nebraska tqfight unemployment. . . v 2 . s The money would he used for construction of a health, o n u o physical education and recreation bu&ling on the UNO campus. Two attempts to get state funics for the project have been vetoed by Gov. J. James Exon. To be eligible, for the money, that area's unemploy ment rate must be above the national average. The Doug las and Sarpy County area is the only one in Nebraska that qualifies. Regents wi3 also consider; -A UNL procedures code for the Academic Freedom and Tenure Committee that would estahliii due process for faculty members who have grievances or face -A program for dental training of South Dakotans. -A report on progress of the UNL School of Life Sciences building. -The authorization of bids for a new swine and beef farrowing center at the Curtis School of Technical Agriculture.
