Li an overview of Kennedy's 2zination, Cchea said the media had an instant biography" of Oswald, yet the CIA denies having prior record of him. One of the first men in the media who knew Oswald was a communist was a CIA nun, he said. . v The public has reason to be distrustful of pvercment, Freed said, because it has an unelected President and has what he called a power vacuum at the highest govern mental level. He also said because UJS. Secretary of State Henry Kisser is unelected, he is widely mistrusted and re presents international, not natbnal, interests. In the wake of Watergate and an undeclared war in Vietnam, Freed said Americans are striving for openness and mfcrmation, but institutions believe there is a greater need for secrecy. ' - Hie need to know is equivalent to the need for food and shelter; the quality of survival is a philosophical as wc3 as physical survival, he said.
