Planning and coordinating the largest NU Foundation
fund-raisin drive ever wCl be the top priority for the
foundation's recently elected board chairman, D.B.
Vamer.
Vamer, who has submitted his resignation as NU pres
ident effective Jan. 1, was elected chairman of the NU
Foundation's board of directors Oct. 1. Ills term as board
chairman wD begin Jan. 1, 1977, and is for an indefinite
period.
Varnef said plans for the drive should be completed
in the next three to five months. Although a goal has not
been set, an Oct. 1 press release showed a S25 million gift
campaign is being considered.
A broad based group of volunteers across the state
and nation would lead the drive, Vamer said. Among

Calling the increased cumber of women in business
schools "a huge resource we're just beginning to, tap,"
a UNL College of Business Administration (CBA) admin
istrator predicted a continued increase in women's
enrollment. ' '
Mary Mowday, CBA director of undergraduate studies,
said this year's increase in women's enrollments was about
the same as last year's, although exact figures for this year
were not available. Women's enrollment in CBA nearly
doubled from 1973 to 1975. She said the trend began in
the 19603 and would continue because "women are just
beginning to learn about the opportunities available to
them in business."
Those opportunities are in all phases of business, but
especially in administration and management, she said.
The job market has opened up quite a bit for women in
the last few years, she noted, and is not limited to office
'and clerical work anymore. V

Harry Ilaynie, foundation president, said this would be
the largest fund-raising drive to date. Other current
foundation projects have included an effort to raise $1
million for the College of Pharmacy, and drives that raised
$13 million for the Nebraska Center for Continuing
Education, $400,000 for the College of Law and
$350,000 for the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) participation
is one major difference between the drive now being con
sidered and past foundation drives. Generally, the UNO
Alumni Association collects funds for the Omaha campus.
But Ilaynie said UNO would participate in the major
gift campaign.
Currently, the foundation's assets are $253 million.
The last fiscal year has been the foundation's most
productive-it collected $5.4 million. The funds come
from alumni, corporations, foundations, grants and invest

She said better employment opportunities are the main
reason for the increase in women's enrollment, .but she
also cited "awareness" as a big factor. '
"Women are a lot more informed of the jobs and
careen available to them in business today than they were
a few years ago," she said. The student grapevine is very
effective in this area.
"There have been lots of stories in the news media, in
advertising as well as in the career planning office about
the opportunities available for women."
She said many good areas of employment are open to
women because so few women have had business training
in the past. The influx of women in CBA has not meant
any great changes in curriculum or staffing, she added.
Mowday said as far as she knew, no courses were
planned especially for women and no courses were
planned dealing with possible problems women might
have in the business world.
