Varner to the NU Board of Regents at their Sept. 8 meeting. The regents pve Varner approval at their July 17 meeting to draft a budget that would increase tax-supported money to the university by at least 15 per cent. Varner told the regents at the meeting that they should prepare for a five per cent increase in the cost of items purchased by the university A five per cent tuition increase to re flect increases in the Consumer Price Index should also be expected, Varner said. He also told the regents they should pre pare for: -A 10 to 14 per cent increase in the cost of utilities, hospital supplies and library materids. -An across-the-board pay raise of six per cent for university employes, with an additional three per cent for faculty members. -A total of $3-84 mSIson to improve educational programs. Of this money, UNL would receive $1.7 micn, the University of Ncbrasla at Omaha (UNO) and the Ifei versity Medical Center would gtt $350,000 each and the Ifcfcersty Systems Office would receive $445P0O. -$5COfd to UNO to he!? that campus reach parity with UNL. . Additional funds wD be needed for agri cultural research and extension and possi bly to offset losses in federal aid, Varner said.
