The appointment plan was necessary because of the increased work load involved in making financial aid awards' for the . fall semester. Knight said. The appointments will allow advisers more time to prepare for and talk with each student, she added. The advisers have taken the attitude that although they can't see as many students per day, they can give better service to those that are seen," Knight said. Half-hour appointments are scheduled. Appointments with Doug Severs, campus employment and work study adviser, are fifteen minutes long because he must see twice as many students. Knight - said. However, an adviser is available to see students whose questions need immediate attention. '. - The appointment policy was originally planned for the summer only, but has worked well thus far and tentatively will be continued in the fall, Knight said. ' Appointments can be made with advisers cn weekdays from 7:39 to 11:39 and from 1:39 to 3:39 during the summer. Although the office has heard some complaints from "impatient students" about making appointments, students have reacted more favorably than expected, according to Lisa Friend, receptionist at the cZIce. Associate director cf the cfOce, Ron Fritz, said he hopes advisers wCl have more time to work cn swards for the fall because of the appointment plan. - "We're about three weeks behind sehedr'e now," he said, "but we hope to make up some time sad have the award letters mailed out by the end cf July." The office has also applied for a toll-free telephone line to help outstate students communicate with the office during the summer months, Fritz said. This would allow students to accept or decline their' financial aid awards by telephone at no cost to the student, he said.
