Chautauqua' 76 billed in 8 towns By Bsibsra Lct2 The repeat performance of Chautauqua, a touring company of UNL singers, dancers, speakers and craftsmen, is bCIed as a hit for its 1976 summer season in eight Nebraska towns. Don Jacks, director of the 85-member cast, said, "the idea is to take university arts and humanities outstate to people who don't have an opportunity to see live drama, live dance, broadcasting and dynamic speakers." ' Jacks also is assistant director of university informa tion and was member of the publicity crew last summer. The program, being planned since August 1975, will start in South Sioux City May, 25 and 26 and continue with two-day stays in BeEevue, Beatrice, Grand Island, Kearney, Ogadala and Scottsbhiff. It ends with a two-day stay in Chadron June 8 and 9. This year's theme is a combination of the Bicentennial and a play, "The Awakening Conscience of America, he said. The $v0,(XXl budgst is financed by the State Bicentennial Commission, the State Committee for the Humanities, ths State Arts Council, the University of Nebraska Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. Each community must guarantee an additional $3,500 from ticket sales it sets, Jacks said. ; Chautauqua rents a tent for 1,500 people, and towns must furnish electricity, chairs, security and publicity, he said. Jacks said last year's program touched on Nebraska's cultural heritage, this year, folk artists, craftsman, fiddlers, dulcimer players, blacksmiths and quitters will display their talents.
