In an age when housewives and garbagemen are
"domestic engineers" and "sanitary engineers," the UNL
Engineering-Week (E-Week) activities, April 2 and 3,
attempt to show the public what serious engineers do, ac
cording to John Richards, E-Week chairman.
Professional engineers take scientific principles and
develop devices people can use to make their lives easier,
said Richards, a senior electrical engineering major from
Albion.
He said this year's E-Week theme, "Yesterday's Dream,
Today's Engineering, means engineers must create
devices that will be lasting and efficient. Today's engineer
ing is a result of yesterday's dreams, he. said, but engineers
must conserve resources, allowing other generations
dreams to become realities.
Activities for the 64th annual E-Week, sponsored by
the College of Engineering and Technology, include:
-Convocation Friday at 1 a jn. in the Nebraska Union
Ballroom. Ralph Shaw, a UNL alumnus and general
-Road Rally beginning at 2 pxa. Friday in the
Nebraska Engineering Center parking lot, 16th and Vine
streets. As many as SO cars can participate, each with a
driver and a navigator. Interested persons still can contact
the dean of Engirsenng and Technology in Room I81W
Nebraska Hall. All participants must be UNL students
because of insurance coverage.
-E-Week Open House, with a free public exhibition of
engineering and technology, is from 1 to 10 pjn. Friday
and from 9 am. to 4 pjn. Saturday in the Nebraska
Engineering Center.
- -Banquet at 6 pan. Saturday at the Elks Cfch, 131
Centennial Mall North. Open to the public at $5.50 a
person. Henry Marvin, a UNL alumnus and head of solar
energy research at the Energy Research and Development
Administration (ERDA) in Washington, D.C w2I speak.
