An expanded variety of mtisic will be offered and students will become more actively involved in the classroom, he said. While concentrating on Baroque, Classical and Roman tic periods, CM also will include the study of twentieth century, medieval and renaissance music, Michel said. Jazz, pop, Oriental and African music also will be studied. "CM will place more of a burden on the student be cause tilings are not so neatly packaged," Michel said. "Students will have to do more preparation on their own and put things together," rather than just attend classes, he said. Students will work more with music than before, he added. " ' "It (CM) recognizes three important music behaviors," which include "composing, performing and listening-the things you can do with music," Michel said. Currently, 109 students are enrolled in the program, he said. As these students progress through the School of Music, CM classes, appropriate to their class level will be added and the courses they would have taken will be dropped, he said. Ten academic music classes will be replaced by 6 four- and five-hour CM. classes, he added. The School of Music has been working on the CM program since the summer of 1973 when several Music Theory faculty members returned from a CM workshop in San Diego, Calif., he said. The CM approach to music training driginated in the mid-1960s, he added. : Big Q Cafe I Come and enjoy homecooked meals at down home prices at the Big G Cafe.
