Upeom ing' comedy
directed by UNL
theatre newcomer
By Charlie Krig
A newcomer to UNL's Theatre Arts Dept. will direct
Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman's Pulitzer Prize-winning
play, You Can't Take It With You. The comedy of situa
tions will open at 8 pjn. Friday, Feb. 27 at Howell
Theatre.
Bill Kirk directed My Sweet Charlie in the Arena
Theatre last semester, but this will be his first mainstage
production.
Kirk, who came to UNL last fall after receiving his
Master of Fine Arts degree from Southern Methodist Uni
versity, currently is an acting instructor in the depart
ment. He explained the plot of You Can 't as "A young man,
whose father is a Wall Street banker, who plans to marry
a young lady whose family is quite opposite."
The play's humor also is derived from the year in
which it was written (1936), Kirk said, when few Ameri
cans had money to spare since the nation was emerging
from the Great Depression. ,

Penelope); Kathy Morrow, Lincoln, (Essie); Melissa Bacr,
Lincoln, (Rheba). John Koch, Lincoln, (Paul Sycamore);
