"if I ,1 Alumni group Will have telethon UNL student organizations and Greek bourse have been invited to compete with 27 other telethon teams for a $500 first prize for soliciting the most new UNL Alumni Association members. Die Alumni Association will conduct the telethon March 8 through April 29 to sell membership and to up date biographies on those graduating between 1931 and 1973, said Jack Miller, executive vice-president of the Alumni Association. For 25 days, excluding spring vacation, every Monday through Thursday from 7 to 9 pjn., calls will be made fjbrn 25 telephones at the Alumni Association house, 1520 R St., he said. Second and third place prizes are $250 and $100, re spectively, Miller said.. Seventeen groups and their partici pating alumni had signed up by Wednesday to be some of the 784 callers needed, he said. Teams must have 28 members including three extras to man the phones, in case of individual cancellations, he said. A different group wili place calls each night. Except for those in Lincoln and Omaha who will be contacted later, about 20,000 UNL alumni in telephone area code 402 will be called, he said. Callers must explain that membership fees are $6 for the first three years out of college, then $12 until the forty-fifth year out of college when dues are back to $6, Miller said. Lifetime membership dues are sold for $200. He said the caller also is told to ask if the alumnus has any high school students to whom they could send uni versity information. Ralph Abernathy will speak tonight Ralph Abernathy, president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLS) will speak in the Nebraska Union ballroom tonight at 7:30. The public event is sponsored by the Nebraska Union Program Councils Black Activities Committee. Abernathy, who became SCLC president upon the assassination of Martin Luther King, was a founder of the Montgomery Improvement Assoication, SCLS's fore runner. . .
