t-.A-i, 'fnknterV 13. 1976 page 10 daily nebraskan Danee benefit will last 30 hours Contestants in the KLMS Radio Chi Phi fraternity sponsored Dance Marathon for Muscular Dystrophy (MD) may trip the light fantastic for 30 hours March S and 6 to win a chance to meet Jerry Lewis in Las Vegas. Forty couples have signed up for the marathon to earn money for MD, said Bruce Harmon, Plaza 4 Theatre manager and MD volunteer. Harmon said he hopes at least 100 couples will sign. , The marathon, which will be in the Nebraska Union Ballroom, begins at 6 p so. Friday, March 5 and continues until midnight Saturday, with three or four hour sleep breaks, Harmon said. Registration fee is $5 a couple, he said. Harmon said contestants can get pledge cards from Rob Hager, KLMS coordinator of ths Muscular Dystrophy Dance Marathon, and must register with Dave Voelte of Chi Phi fraternity by calling 475-6131 Each contestant must have sopnsors who pledge a certain amount of money for each hour of dancing. ' '. ,; Winners will be chosen in two categories: The fraternity or sorority that collectively gathers the most money, and the couple collecting the most money, he said. The couple will win two Schwinn Continental 10 speed bicycles and a trip to Las Vegas to present a check to comedian Jerry Lewis, who is coordinator , of the . Labor Day MD Telethon, he said. Harmon said there are first, second and third place cash and trophy prizes in both categories. A total of $6,000 was collected from the marathon last year and the goal this year is $10,000, Harmon said . Harmon said McDonald's Restaurants will provide hamburgers for a midnight snack for dancers and fruit juice will be served throughout the 30 hour marathon. Bands playing include Wonder Sea, Elastic Band and the Tri-Delt Washboard Band, of Delta Delta Delta sorority. , . For persons not wanting to enter the marathon, $1 will admit them to dance and to watch the competition, he said.
