After voting Tuesday to indefinitely postpone Gov. J. James Exon's appropriations bill, the Nebraska Legislature's- Appropriations Committee continued Wednesday to chart its own budget course. Tuesday, the committee eliminated LB975, Exon's budget bill, which included $84.1 million in state tax funds for NU. The committee's bill, LB690, would appro priate $87.9 million to the university. The Legislature can resurrect the governor's bill on the floor with 30 votes. ." . The committee received a letter Wednesday , from Steven Sample, NU executive vice-president for academic affairs, asking special consideration for $25,000 intended to help NU faculty members seek new sources of support for research and teaching, other than state tax money. The $25,000, listed as an improvement issue by the committee, was included in the NU budget request, but is not contained in LB690. Also Wednesday, legislative fiscal analyst Alan Moeller demonstrated part of the problem NU faces in raising non-tax funds. He said UNL has the smallest percentage of non resident students of a group of six Big 8 Conference schools studied by Exon's 1202 Commission, which con sidered university financing. UNL has 8.8 per cent non residents. Non-residents pay $48.25 a credit hour com pared to the resident tuition rate of $ 18 a credit hour. vjQolonial jjWi iVebraska Union- (Southeast Corner main floor) now featuring SOUP 'N SALAD BAR Make your meal or merefy accompany it with superb soups we make, and lavish salads you make yourself! . -STEAK SOUP Well worth a Wintry walk to the Union It will warm your soul!
