Four University of Nebraska tt Omaha (UNO ) students csSinf them
selves "the UNO Muncfcki&s" visited the capital Friday to "see the
wizard."
"Some of us think UNO has been getting less money in comparison
with UNL," one munch kin said in a prepared statement.
Although slow to admit it, the Tin Man finally said the "Wizard" was
Gov. J. James Exon.
The munch kins were Mike Jones, UNO Student Senate representative,
as the Tin Man; Rod Smith as the lion; Julie Morehead, Student Senate
vice-president as Dorothy; and Sen. Mike Gihnore as die Scarecrow.
UNL debator advances
A UNL student is one of three Nebraska
and western Iowa debaters who will ad
vance to the fourth round of the Bicenten
nial Youth Debates (BYD).
Gigi Hall, a sophomore journalism major
from Tilden, Neb. won first place in extem
poraneous speaking Saturday at the sect
ional competition at Creighton University
in Omaha.
BYD is sponsored by the Speech Com
munication Association and the National
Endowment for the Humanities, a federal
agency. Debate topics center around the
Bicentennial and American history.
Although sectional winners originally
were promised scholarships, they only re
ceived bronze medallions Saturday.
UNL Debate Coach James Klumpp said
the Nebraska Bicentennial Commission,
which was to provide the funds for awards,
has not yet taken action on the financing
grant.
In the fourth round of debates, Hall will
participate with students from Nebraska,
Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and
Illinois. .
