will be dedicated
Beds that fold up into the wall and double the room
space at the hews College of Nursing BMg., will be among
the things visitors can see Saturday, at the buildings
dedication, according to Dr. Rena Boyle, college dean.
The 42,000 sq. foot building at 42nd and Dewey
streets in Omaha, is on the University of Nebraska
Medical Center campus.
Boyle described the $3,106,000 building as beautiful,
yet extremely functionary. She said in addition to the
folding beds, the building features seminar rooms for
small group instruction and one large lecture room with a
capacity of 22S that can be converted to three small
rooms.
One floor of the building will house an independent
learning center where students can go for self-instruction,
she said. Student housing will not be available in the
building which will be used for classroom and office
space, Boyle said.
The new building will allow the College of Nursing to
gradually increase its enrollment from 400 to 700. Fifty
more undergraduates and 75 more graduate students will
be taken this fall, she said.
Construction began two years ago after a three-yea i
quest for funds, Boyle said. The Federal government pro
vided two-thirds of the funds for the building, she said,
and the state made up the differnence.
The old College of Nursing building now is occupied
by the Colleges of Pharmacy and Physical Therapy.
