The Huskers scored 148.85 to second place Indiana State's (ISU) 143.85 and third-place Oklahoma's 141.55 in the meet for ail-arounders only. Husker sophomore Larry Gerard placed third behind ISU's Doug Griffith and Husker teammate Gene Mackie, but still achieved one of his goals. Husker coach Francis Allen said Gerard was invited Friday to compete in a training camp at Perm State University Dec. 26 to Jan. 1. Between 10 and 20 gymnasts will be invited to the camp and seven will be chosen from that group to compete against a Russian team Jan. 20. Allen said Gerard was chosen on the strength of past performances and his Mid west Open all-around victory last week. Ini tially a score of 106 was necessary to be in vited, but Allen said a stricter scoring system may have made that number un realistic. Gerard scored 104.25 in winning the Midwest Open. Duane West and Ric Heineman compet ed for Nebraska in addition to Gerard and Mackie. The best three scores in an event were recorded. West won the floor exercise with a 93 and tied for first in the high bar. Gerard was first in the still rings, second in the floor exercise and third on the parallel bars. Mackie finished second in the parallel bars, third on the still rings and fourth on the pommel horse. Michigan and Southern Illinois finished fourth and fifth in the meet Those two teams, plus ISU and UNL, were among eight teams in the NCAA finals last year. One of ISU's best all-arounders, Kurt Thomas, was absent from the meet, but Allen said his presence might not hrve overcome Nebraska's five-point victory margin.- Six place at wrestling meet Nebraska's wrestling squad placed six wrestlers Saturday at the Iowa State Open Invitational Wrestling Tournament. Senior Tony Jennings, at 142 lbs., and 177 lb. junior Bill Hoffman led the team with second-place finishes.
