Faculty reject BGS degree

defeated a proposed Bachelor of Genenl
Science degree (BGS) in a mad ballot that
took place last month.
Associate dean of the coUege Raymond
Haggh, called the 156 to 89 vote a deci
sive defeat." There are approximately 500
voting faculty members in the college.
No further action now is being planned
to revise the BGS to more acceptable stan
dards, Haggh said.

was presented at the Oct. .31 meeting of
the College of Arts and Sciences faculty,
and faculty members voted to put the BGS
to a mail vote.
Although the BGS would have freed a
student from the group requirements of
the B.A. and B.S., the student would have
been required to take 60 hours above the
30 hours above 299 level courses. For
graduation, 125 hours would have been
required. ,
