UNL's junior varsity basketball team dropped a pair of
decisions last weekend, losing to the Nebraska Wesleyan
j.v.'s 76-75 Friday and Kearney State's j.v.'s 72-66 Sat
urday. UNL was led by freshmen Val Martin Fernando
Chevannes. Martin, 6 ft. 7 in. native of South Bend, Ind.,
tallied 18 against Nebraska Wesleyan and 29 against
Kearney. Chevannes, a 6 ft. 5 in. forward from Panama
City, Panama, scored 20 points against Nebraska Wesleyan
and 14 against Kearney State.
In Saturday night's game, Randy Cipriano, son of UNL
coach Joe Cipriano, scored 15 points for Kearney State.
Two UNL women's swimming records were broken in a
combined men and women intersquad swim meet Nov. 21
when Red defeated White 102-98.
Mikki Crosby swam a career best 1:05.6 in the 100
meter women's butterfly, a UNL record.
The women's medley relay team also set a record 2:02.0.
Relay team members are Ann Brinkman, Deb Peterson,
Ruth Spencer and Crosby.
Women's meet results were used in a telephone meet
with the University of Massachusetts, swim coach Pat
Sullivan said, but Massachusetts won 77-34, sweeping all
first places. Swimmers Spencer, Lisa MaGee, Ellen Hol
lander led UNL, Sullivan said.
Husker gymnasts Larry Gerard and Gene Mackie finished
first and fourth respectively in the all-around event at the
Windy City Invitational in Chicago Saturday.
Gerardi's winning score of 104.25 left him short of
qualifying for the USA USSR dual meet training camp at
Penn State University, from which the 1976 Olympic team
will be selected.
UNL wrestlers Bill Hoffman and Bob Johnson each
finished second in their respective weight classes at the
Oklahoma Open Wrestling tournament Saturday in
Hoffman lost to Bill Mitchell of Oklahoma Central State
College, 1-0 in the 177 lbs. division finals in overtime.
Johnson lost to Oklahoma University's Mark Neumann 5-1
in the 190 lbs. finals.
The first meeting of the Nebraska gymnastics booster
club will be Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Villager
Motel Ballroom, 5200 O St. All students are invited to
