Cather 'welcome'
won't come down
Apartment 1310
Welcome
That sign will stay where it is painted in black and white
in a comer of the Cather 13 hallway until students vacate
the residence hall in May, according to Chris Ewing, Cather
13 president.
Earlier this fall, Residence Director Rich Hanke noticed
the sign had not been painted over when students had
repainted the rest of the hallway and ordered them to do it,
Ewing said.
Students refused because the sign had been there for
several years, and many of the residents had "become
attached to it," he said.
Hanke told the residents they risked losing their floor
improvement funds, according to Ewing.
At a floor meeting where Ewing said about 70 per cent
of the residents were present, everyone voted to do what
ever possible to keep the sign.
Disagreements continued. Complex Program Director
Bill Schnackcl met with Hanke and students and gave
reasons why it should be repainted.
"It originally wasn't that big of deal, but it sure caused
some hard feelings," Ewing said.
