Alcohol may not be in UNL residence
halls or in the Nebraska Union next semes
ter, but it will be in the Food and Nutri
tion 280c classroom.
The gourmet cooking class will include
cooking with and studying wines, said
Hazel Fox, chairman of the Food and
Nutrition Dept.
Fox said the department had to receive
NU Board of Regents' approval to offer the
course because of the campus alcohol ban.
Regent Ed Schwartzkopf of Lincoln
said the board approved this case of
campus alcohol use because, "we (NU)
wouldn't progress very far if we restricted
everything."
The course will contain "little actual
kitchen work," said S.R. Haddal, course
instructor and manager of Lincoln's Uni
versity Club.
"Students expressed a desire for classes
relating to commercial rather than institu
tional applications, such as hospitals," he
said. "This course will give students a
better employment opportunity to go out
and find a job in a fine hotel or restaurant."
