Regents consider
Big 8 convention
A proposed summer meeting of Big 8 conference
regents did not occur, but officials from the NU Board
of Regents who proposed and worked on the idea say
there still is interest in such a get-together.
"Each of the states we contacted was in the middle of
their budget discussions during the time the meeting was
scheduled," said Robert Prokop, NU regent from Minden.
"But most of those people who said they couldn't come
did indicate that they thought the idea had merit," accord
ing to William Swan son, the regents' corporation secretary.
Swanson said the meeting was scheduled for "some
time in June," and would have been conducted "like any
other regional conference or convention."
Jhe regents were to discuss problems that are similar
among the schools, according to Swanson.
Prokop said the meeting was to be at the Nebraska
Center for Continuing Education, 33rd and Holdrege
Streets 1 -
"I put the initial thrust through to contact the board
chairmen," Prokop said. "Then the planning was turned
over to the board's corporate secretaries."
Attending regents would have been "going dutch,"
Prokop said, by paying their own expenses at the confer
ence. Swanson said that arrangements to have the meeting will
be started again within the next month.
"There were a lot of problems with holding the meeting
in June," Swanson said. "I can't remember them alh
There were things like vacations and other business."
