UNL's Agronomy Club
wins third national title
UNL Agronomy Club ia first national
ly for the third consecutive year. It was
awarded the title Aug. 2& at the annual
conference of the American Society of
Agronomy at the University of Tennessee
in Kcoxvilie.
Lowell Moser, club adviser, said the
award is given for club activities through
the year, the percentage of club members
participating in activities and participation
of members in national contests.
To compete, the president of each club
must submit a pictorial scrapbook of the
group's activities and include a listing of
the outcome of various club members
competition in national speech, essay, and
photography contests. Each university's,
winner in each category continues
competition. "
Club members Keith Johnson, Dan
Monaghan, Bill Siefert, Lon Wildhagen,
Dick James, Russ Olson, Paul Henjy, John
Fischbach and Larry Rasmussen attended
the Student Activities Subdivision of the
American Society of Agronomy's confer
ence. Moser said nearly 100 agronomy
clubs competed. .
For the 1974-75 school year, Johnson
was the club's national president and Mon
aghan was national recording secretary.
Henjy and Monaghan both presented
speeches at the conference's student sym
posium. Rasmussen was director of the
national speech contest.
Siefert placed third nationally in the
speech and essay contests. For the 1975-76
' school year, he will serve as cochairman for
membership, working to organize new
clubs and encourage inactive clubs to
become more active.
Moser said the club was awarded a
trophy and $75, The national title means
the UNL club has accomplished more than
any other club in the nation, he said, and
predicted that "If wedont make number
once again this year, Im confident that
well at least be in the top five."
