About 300 decoys of several kinds of birds, including geese, "The American Indians, as far as any body knows, were the first to make bird decoys," Nelson said. "It really is a native American art form." . No American Indian decoys are dis played, however. A 1,000-year-old decoy from the Museum of the American Indian in New York City was supposed to be sent to Sheldon, but the New York attorney general decided nothing should leave the museum, Nelson said.
