Aunt Hannah reviews
new TV shows...
and comes up short
Most of the new season's shows start
this week, and your Aunt Hannah got
curious. How will they amaze us this fall,
those clever program dreamer-uppers?
Police shows, doctor shows, family shows,
shows with ethnic humor-why, they've
done it again! Remember last year's shows?
They've cleverly dreamed them up again!
Three of these 25 new shows look
exceptional, though. Aung Hannah has
always trusted Mel Brooks for yoks, and
he's responsible for When , Things Were
Rotten. Space: 1999, on Tuesday nights,
may provide the fix. ' Star Trek junkies have
longed for. And Beacon Hill, also on
Tuesdays, is full of -delicious scandal about
rich Irish folks and their servants in the
1920s. . - . ":;
Here's my list. A few of the shows begin
the week after next, or even later.

Because they don't travel by air, the
programs on cable TV are not, strictly
speaking, the concern of your Aunt
llannah. Yet she is not a fuddy-duddy, and
is willing to accomodate those of her
friends who subscribe to Cablevision. .

after World War I.
What should have happened long before,
came about this summer,
' "' " ' , '
UNL's dance dept. hired Richard
Croskey as the first male dance teacher
ever at UNL.
Hie Dayton, Ohio native said he began
dancing when he was 8. He received his
undergraduate degree from Butler
University in Indianapolis and. his M.A.
from Southern Methodist University in
Dallas. . '
He taught at Lon Morris College in
Texas and was an art director for a civic
dance company , in Ohio before coming to
Nebraska.
Croskey has been active in starting a '
new dance company at UNL This week 27
persons-including seven men-auditioned
for membership in the select group,
tentatively called the University Dance
Company. The company will "perform in
Kimball Recital Hail Feb. 5. .
Croskey said he foresees no problem in
recruiting talent.
"There are a lot of good men in the
department right now,", he said, "and more
are starting all the time."
The most interesting developments in
dance are now happening in university
dance companies, Croskey" said. , He
attributed this experimentation to several
causes; the facilities available on campuses,
the interested audiences and a feeling of ,
commitment among' the "dancers
themselves.
One of Croskey's favorite dance
companies is directed by Elliot Field, a
professor in residence at New York
University, ile -described the Elliot Field
Company as "basically ballet," but he
added, they also have a cotemporary
feeling for all forms of dance.
Croskey also cited the Dance Theater of
Harlem. Although the group is not as good
technically as some other American
companies, it is one of the most exciting,
he said.
The greatest challenge in teaching dance
is instilling in his students the sense of
commitment which is vital to the art,
Croskey said.
"It carries over to everything in life,"
Croskey said. "If you're not committed to
your job, then you're not committed to
anything."
