    Drama n ETV schedul
A one-act drama by William Saroyan and a
mime performance by two French actors will be
seen on two special television programs produced
by the cultural aff airs unit of the Nebraska ETV
Network.
Bert Houle and Sophie Wibaux,
internationally recognized mimes, perform on
the program, "Out of Thin Air," Tuesday at 9:30
p.m. Mime is a special dramatic ait form using
body and facial movements, without using the
spoken word, in order to convey an
interpretation to an audience.
Mime is a medium that knows neither
language barriers nor bounds of time and space,
Bert and Sophie explain. Mime appears to be a
spontaneous expression of feeling, but actually Is
a very disciplined craft involving muscle control,
strength, grace and choreographed action as its
essential elements.
"Out of Thin Air," which had its premiere
broadcast on the Network in May, includes mime
performances for television presented before a
studio audience of young people, a master class
held by the artists with the same audience and an
interview.
American playwright
"Hello Out There" to be broadcast on
Saturday at 9 p.m. was written by American
playwright William Saroyan. The play focuses on
the bad luck of an itinerant gambler who is
arrested and jailed in a small Texas town on a
charge of rape. The charge is a lie and the only
person who hears his call for justice and
understanding is a lonely young girl who cooks
for the jail. The gambler gives all of his money to
the girl before a mob breaks into the jail and the
lying woman's husband shoots him.'
The play was video taped at the historic
Johnson County Jail in Tecumseh, Nebraska. The

Special programs
Other ETV special programs will be broadcast
during the week ahead.
"Theater in America" begins its rebroadcast
schedule Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. with "A Touch
of the Poet." This revival of Eugene O'Neill's
play about a poor Irish family in Boston in the
19208 features Fritz Weaver. The
two-and-one-half hour play was directed by
Stephen Porter. .
"Shakespeare Wallah," the story of a troupe
of British Shakespearean actors, traveling
through India presenting their performances, will
be rebroadcast as a presentation of "Hollywood
Television Theatre," Thursday at 8 pjn. Set at
the end of imperial rule in India, this play shows
the country in a state of transition as seen
through the eyes of the traveling actors.
Star Crossed lovers
"The Melancholy Hussar" by Thomas Hardy
is the July "Play of the Month." This hour-long
drama, broadcast Saturday at 8 p.m., is the story
of young, star-crossed lovers caught in the
disastrous days of the Napoleonic Wars. The
program is beautifully filmed on location in
England at a 16th century Dorset farm house.
Other programs of special interest to Nebraska
ETV viewers include:
-Roger Welsch hosts "I Think I'd Rather Be a
Cowboy," a cultural and historical program
which examines the facts and the myths
surrounding the American cowboy. Wednesday
at 3:30 pjm. on the Nebraska ETV Network. The
program was produced by UN-L School of
Journalism instructors and students.
-"The Three R's" on "Walsh's Animals"
stands for rats, rodents and their relatives. In this
episode of the series about animals, broadcast
Tuesday at 6:30 pjn., John Walsh introduces
viewers to the world's largest rodent, the
capybara.
'Rap about It'
-Two prominent guests are featured in two
programs of the "Rap About It" series this week.
Host Mai Admas talks with Charles H. Ivory,
program manager for human improvement and
criminal justice for the United States Jayceei,
Thursday at 10 pjn. Angela Davis, a former
Instructor at UCLA and a member of the
American Communist Party, is featured in an
interview taped on the court house steps in
Lincoln and in a studio in Omaha on the "Rap
About It" program airing Saturday at 7 pjn.
-Scottie Fitzgerald Smith, the daughter of F,'
Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, talks to "Book Beat"
host Robert Cromie about her famous parents
and her biography about them,, "The Romantic
Egoists " Sunday at 4 pjn.
-The inventive side of da Vinci's gift prevades
the second episode of "The life of Leonardo da
Vinci" broadcast Sunday, at 8:30 pjn. on the
Nebraska ETV Network. The artist accepts the
role of courtier to Milan's Lodovico il Moro and
produces such paintings as "Lady with
Ermine" and "The Virgin of the Rocks.'
