Motorists, on Holdrege St.
between 27th and 33rd streets
were given that message by
members of the Clinton
Neighborhood Organization
last week.
The Clinton group attached
large wood X figures on trees
that would be eliminated if the
Lincoln City Council approves
the widening of Holdrege St.
between 27th and 48th.
The City Council will vote
on the proposal, which seeks to
widen Holdrege to a four-lane
street, at its meeting on July
21.
Meanwhile, "we wanted the
public to know what would
happen," said Eric Youngberg,
a VISTA volunteer and city
planner who is working with
the Clinton neighborhood
association.
Besides the use of the
graphic X sympols, the Clinton
group canvassed houses and
provided sample letters and
addressed envelopes for
residents to write city council
members.
Youngberg said signatures
were also gathered to support a
voter referendum on Lincoln
street widening.
At the week's end, the signs
were taken down, Youngberg
said.
"We didn't want them to be
torn down," he said.
"The impact was made."
