And Gerald Rudolph, dean of university libraries, said he would like to see the move completed by the time students start fall classes in August. Rudolph said the 800,000 books that will be moved should be moved by then, but all the signs and directions to help students might not be in place by then. "We will be close, though," he said. The number of books that needs to be moved is eight times the amount that had to be moved when the Law College migrated from City Campus to East CampuV. That move was completed in two weeks and two days, he said. "Because of the complexity here," he said, "we're talking in terms of months." The first stage of the move has begun, he said. All the reference material in Love Library has been moved into the east part of the connecting link between the second floors of the old part of Love Library (Love Library South) and the addition (Love Library North), he said. The west part of the link will contain all unbound periodicals which were in the periodical room or shelved in the stacks, he said. Rudolph said the library staff also is looking at the center area of the link to see if there is enough space to move the card catalogues there. 'This may not be the best location (for this material)," he said, "but we hope it is centralized and well planned." The reference room will be turned into a large reading room, Rudolph said. When the state finances the renovation of Love Library South, he said, he hopes new carpet and modern furniture will be added to the room. The move into the rest of Love Library North, which will contain mostly stacks of books, will depend on how fast the shelves can be assembled, he said. , Currently union workers are working without a contract, he said, and if they should strike, the move could be delayed.
